COLD
LASER
WHO? WHAT? WHERE?
Practitioners have been using laser therapy for three decades to
help patients reduce and eliminate pain. Until recently, there has
been confusion and controversy as to what conditions could be helped
by laser therapy.
Now, the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) has approved low level
laser therapy or cold laser for such conditions as Carpal Tunnel
Syndrome (CTS) and Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD). Research
continues to show positive effects for chronic neck and back pain,
trigger points, Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis, whiplash,
wound healing and tennis/golfer's elbow.
HOW
DOES IT WORK?
The cold laser emits 830nm wavelength of near infrared light and
660 nm of visible red light. These forms of light are found in the
normal spectrum. This light is then concentrated to promote healing
of the affected tissue in addition to the aid and alleviation of
pain and swelling.
The cold laser does not heat the tissue, therefore, could be used
on a myriad of conditions, especially in the acute phase, where
inflammation would be prevalent.
This treatment is not at all painful or long in duration. The usual
treatment lasts between 30 seconds to 2 minutes. It also is safe,
with no known negative side effects.
This
amazing device can help patients quickly return to their previous
sports level, work and hobbies!
TRUE
STORY!
A former patient reported foot pain for several months. With 1 P.T.
session, which included 2 one minute treatments with the cold laser,
she did not need to return, and remains pain free now for 4 months!
DIRECT
ACCESS IS IN NJ!
Direct access has been passed in many states and continues to be
the norm. This started in NJ on February 13, 2003. It allows patients
to be seen for Physical Therapy without a prescription. This is
exciting news for patients! It gives you more freedom and control
over your care.
If
you have insurance, you need to ask your carrier what their policy
is regarding this new access. It is up to them to determine what
they will pay for.
If they will not cover your sessions with us, no problem! We can
set up an easy payment plan.
